The Chardham Yatra is one of the most important pilgrimage journeys in India, dedicated to the worship of Hindu deities. It involves visiting four sacred shrines located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, in the Himalayan region. The Chardham Yatra is considered a spiritual journey, and it is believed that visiting these four temples can bring salvation and remove the cycle of birth and death (moksha).

Uttarakhand: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, Badrinath

Days Plan

Day 1: Dehradun – Barkot – Yamunotri

  • Morning:
    • Start early from Dehradun (about 6 hours) and drive to Barkot.
    • Proceed to Janki Chatti (42 km from Barkot).
  • Afternoon:
    • Begin the trek (6 km one way) to Yamunotri Temple (approx. 3–4 hours).
    • Perform darshan and rituals at the temple.
  • Evening:
    • Return to Janki Chatti by trek and drive back to Barkot.
    • Overnight stay in Barkot.

Day 2: Barkot – Gangotri

  • Morning:
    • Start early from Barkot to drive to Gangotri (approx. 8 hours via Uttarkashi).
    • Reach Gangotri and visit the Gangotri Temple.
    • Perform rituals and take a holy dip in the Bhagirathi River.
  • Evening:
    • Overnight stay in Gangotri or nearby towns like Harsil.

Day 3: Gangotri – Guptkashi

  • Morning:
    • Begin your journey early to Guptkashi (approx. 10–12 hours drive).
    • En route, enjoy the scenic beauty of the Himalayan valleys and rivers.
  • Evening:
    • Check into a hotel in Guptkashi and rest for the night.

Day 4: Guptkashi – Kedarnath – Badrinath

  • Morning:
    • Drive to Gaurikund (30 km, about 1.5 hours) and start the 16 km trek to Kedarnath (or use pony/palanquin services).
    • Reach Kedarnath and perform darshan.
  • Afternoon:
    • Return to Gaurikund via trek and drive towards Badrinath (about 7–8 hours).
    • If time allows, visit Badrinath Temple.
  • Evening:
    • Overnight stay in Badrinath.

 

Day 5 (Optional for Extra Time): Badrinath – Dehradun

  • Morning:
    • Complete darshan at Badrinath (if pending).
    • Visit nearby attractions like Mana Village or Tapt Kund.
  • Afternoon:
    • Drive back to Dehradun (approx. 10–12 hours).

    • 2 passport size photos
    • Adult – Original + photocopy of any of the ID proof i.e. Aadhar Card / Driving Licence /  Voters       ID / Passport
    • Child – Original + photocopy of any of the ID proof i.e. Aadhar Card / School ID / Passport
    • Infant – Aadhar Card / Birth certificate
    • NRI / Foreign nationals – Mandatory Passport + Valid Indian visa / OCI card / PIO card
    • Above mentioned ID proof is mandatory at the time of booking and carry the same ID proof on         tour as well

Best Time to Visit:

  • The Chardham Yatra generally takes place from April to November, when the temples are open. The pilgrimage season starts with the opening of the Yamunotri and Gangotri temples, typically on Akshay Tritiya (in April or May), and ends in October or November, with the temples closing for the winter.

 

How to Reach:

  • By Air: The nearest airport to the Chardham Yatra is Jolly Grant Airport (Dehradun) for reaching Yamunotri and Gangotri. For Kedarnath, there is Heli service from Phata or Gaurikund. The nearest airport to Badrinath is Dehradun or Haridwar.
  • By Train: The nearest railway stations are Haridwar or Rishikesh, both well-connected by rail from major cities.
  • By Road: Roads leading to the Chardham temples are well-developed, but the terrain is challenging due to the mountainous region.
