Days Plan

  • Activities: Arrive in Kathmandu. Visit Pashupatinath Temple and Swayambhunath (optional).
  • Stay: Hotel in Kathmandu.
  • Preparation: Briefing about the trip and checking of necessary documents.
  • Activities: Take a short flight to Nepalgunj, located near the India-Nepal border.
  • Stay: Hotel in Nepalgunj.
  • Preparation: Rest and acclimatization.
  • Activities: Early morning flight to Simikot. Continue by helicopter to Hilsa and cross the border into Tibet (China).
  • Stay: Guesthouse in Purang (Taklakot).
  • Preparation: Acclimatization in high-altitude areas.
  • Activities: Rest and short walks to adjust to high altitudes.
  • Stay: Guesthouse in Purang.
  • Activities: Scenic drive to Mansarovar Lake (around 3–4 hours). Explore the lake and its spiritual significance.
  • Stay: Guesthouse near Mansarovar.
  • Activities: Perform a parikrama (circumambulation) of Mansarovar Lake by vehicle. Visit nearby monasteries.
  • Stay: Guesthouse in Darchen.
  • Activities: Trek or drive to Yam Dwar, the starting point of the Kailash Parikrama. Begin the trek to Dirapuk (approximately 10–12 km).
  • Stay: Guesthouse or camp at Dirapuk (altitude: ~4,900 m).
  • Activities: The most challenging part of the trek, crossing Dolma La Pass (5,636 m). Descend to Zuthulpuk.
  • Stay: Guesthouse or camp at Zuthulpuk.
  • Activities: Complete the parikrama (short trek) and drive back to Darchen.
  • Stay: Guesthouse in Darchen.
  • Activities: Return journey from Darchen to Purang and cross the border to Hilsa.
  • Stay: Guesthouse in Simikot or Hilsa.
  • Activities: Helicopter ride to Simikot, flight to Nepalgunj, and onward flight to Kathmandu.
  • Stay: Hotel in Kathmandu.

    • Adult – Original + photocopy of any of the ID proof i.e. Aadhar Card / Driving Licence /  Voters       ID / Passport
    • Child – Original + photocopy of any of the ID proof i.e. Aadhar Card / School ID / Passport

Best Time to Visit Kailash Mansarovar

The ideal time to visit Kailash Mansarovar is May to September, when the weather is relatively stable and temperatures are moderate. During this period:

  1. Weather: Daytime temperatures range between 10°C to 20°C, while nights can be chilly. The skies are mostly clear, offering breathtaking views of Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake.
  2. Accessibility: Roads and trekking routes are open, and conditions are safe for travel.
  3. Festivals: Many pilgrims prefer visiting during Saga Dawa, a significant Buddhist festival usually in May or June, celebrating Buddha’s enlightenment.

How to Reach Kailash Mansarovar from India

There are two main routes from India:

Via Lipulekh Pass (Uttarakhand)

  • Route: Delhi → Kathgodam → Dharchula → Lipulekh Pass → Taklakot (Tibet).
  • Details:
    • Step 1: Travel to Kathgodam by train or road from Delhi.
    • Step 2: From Kathgodam, drive to Dharchula.
    • Step 3: Trek through Pithoragarh, Gunji, and Lipulekh Pass before crossing into Tibet.
    • Step 4: Drive to Taklakot and proceed to Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake.
  • Challenges: High-altitude trekking can be physically demanding.
