Days Plan

Day 1: Arrival in Gangtok & Travel to Lachung

  • Morning:
    • Arrive in Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, by either flight or train.
    • Pickup by Salt and Sea Adventures from Gangtok airport/railway station.
    • Drive to Lachung (Approx. 6-7 hours). Enjoy the scenic journey through the beautiful landscapes of Sikkim.
  • Evening:
    • Check-in to your hotel/resort in Lachung.
    • Relax and enjoy the serene surroundings of the Himalayan village.
    • Briefing by Salt and Sea Adventures on the upcoming itinerary and important tips.
    • Dinner at the hotel and rest.

Day 2: Explore Lachung & Local Sights

  • Morning:
    • Wake up early to enjoy a warm breakfast.
    • Visit Yumthang Valley (known as the Valley of Flowers) which is about a 1.5-2 hour drive from Lachung.
    • Explore the valley and take in breathtaking views of snow-capped mountains, rivers, and natural beauty.
  • Afternoon:
    • Head to Hot Springs near Yumthang for a relaxing dip in natural warm water.
    • Lunch in the area or at the hotel upon return.
  • Evening:
    • Explore the local market in Lachung for local handicrafts or souvenirs.
    • Visit Lachung Monastery to experience the spiritual side of the region.
    • Dinner and rest at the hotel.

Day 3: Visit Zero Point

  • Morning:
    • Early breakfast, then set off for Zero Point (about 2 hours drive from Lachung).
    • Zero Point is the highest point of the region, offering snow views throughout the year.
    • Snow activities like snowball fights, snow trekking, and photography.
  • Afternoon:
    • Return to Lachung for lunch at your hotel.
  • Evening:
    • Optional: Enjoy a relaxing walk around the town or visit any local temples.
    • Dinner and rest at the hotel.

Day 4: Return to Gangtok

  • Morning:
    • Breakfast at the hotel.
    • Check-out from the hotel in Lachung.
    • Begin your drive back to Gangtok.
  • Afternoon:
    • Stop for lunch on the way and enjoy the scenic drive back.
  • Evening:
    • Arrive in Gangtok, where your trip with Salt and Sea Adventures will conclude.
    • If time permits, explore MG Road for shopping or a quick stroll.
    • Drop-off at the airport/railway station for departure.

Best Time to Visit Lachung:

  1. Winter (October to March):

    • Ideal for snowfall and enjoying a winter wonderland experience.
    • Perfect for those who love snow activities and a chill climate.
    • Temperatures can drop below freezing, so warm clothing is a must.
  2. Summer (April to June):

    • Best for pleasant weather, with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 15°C.
    • Great for trekking, sightseeing, and exploring the valley.
    • Rhododendron flowers bloom during this time, adding beauty to the landscape.
  3. Monsoon (July to September):

    • Not recommended due to heavy rainfall which can cause landslides and travel disruptions.
    • The region’s rugged terrain makes it dangerous during the monsoon season.

How to Reach Lachung:

  1. By Air:

    • The nearest airport is Bagdogra Airport (IXB) in West Bengal (approximately 125 km away).
    • From Bagdogra, you can hire a taxi or take a shared jeep to reach Lachung.
  2. By Train:

    • The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP) (approximately 115 km away).
    • From NJP, taxis and shared jeeps are available to reach Lachung.
  3. By Road:

    • Lachung is well-connected by road to Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, which is about 96 km away.
    • Shared cabs, private taxis, and buses can be used to reach Lachung from Gangtok.
