Days Plan

Day 1: Arrival and Exploration

  • Morning:

    • Arrive in Lonavala from Mumbai or Pune (approximately 2-3 hours drive).
    • Start your journey to Rajmachi, which takes around 2-3 hours by jeep or trek.
    • Check-in to your campsite or guesthouse in Rajmachi.
  • Afternoon:

    • Begin your exploration with a visit to Rajmachi Fort. Trek up to the fort and explore its historic ruins, gates, and bastions. Enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and hills.
    • Have lunch and rest at the fort.
  • Evening:

    • As the sun sets, relax and enjoy the cool breeze while taking in the stunning views.
    • Head back to your campsite or guesthouse and have a warm dinner by the campfire.

Day 2: Trekking and Nearby Attractions

  • Morning:

    • Start your day early with a visit to Manaranjan Fort. You can hike up for some fantastic views of the surrounding mountains.
    • After exploring the fort, enjoy a packed breakfast while soaking in the natural beauty around you.
  • Afternoon:

    • Take a trek to Kondana Caves, located nearby. Explore the Buddhist caves and their historic carvings.
    • You can also visit Bhivpuri Waterfalls for a refreshing dip in the cool waters, especially if you're visiting during the monsoon.
  • Evening:

    • Return to Rajmachi village and relax. Enjoy a peaceful evening in the lap of nature.
    • Have a leisurely dinner and spend the night at your accommodation or campsite.

Day 3: Pawna Lake and Departure

  • Morning:

    • On your last day, head to Pawna Lake for a morning stroll or a relaxing boat ride on the lake. The serenity of the place offers a calm end to your adventurous trip.
    • You can enjoy a picnic breakfast by the lake or at one of the nearby campsites.
  • Afternoon:

    • After enjoying the lake, pack your belongings and start your journey back to Lonavala for your return journey.

    This is the best time to visit Rajmachi, with pleasant weather and cool temperatures. The trekking routes are more comfortable, and the views are clear.

  • Monsoon (June to September):
    The monsoon season transforms the region into a lush green paradise, making it a favorite time for trekkers. However, the waterfalls and trekking routes can be slippery, and some areas may be inaccessible due to heavy rainfall.

How to Reach:

  • By Air:

    • The nearest airport is Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (Mumbai), approximately 90 km from Rajmachi. You can take a taxi or bus from the airport to Lonavala, and then proceed to Rajmachi.
  • By Train:

    • The nearest railway station is Lonavala, which is well connected to Mumbai, Pune, and other major cities. From Lonavala, you can either hire a jeep or trek to Rajmachi (approximately 15 km).
  • By Road:

    • Rajmachi is easily accessible by road from Mumbai (approximately 95 km) and Pune (approximately 60 km). You can drive or hire a taxi to reach Lonavala and then take a jeep to Rajmachi.

Importance of Rajmachi:

The Rajmachi Fort is the primary attraction of the region. It is divided into two parts: Shrivardhan Fort and Manaranjan Fort. The fort is situated on a hilltop and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscapes, including waterfalls, forests, and valleys. It was historically used by the Maratha rulers for defense and strategic purposes.
