Day 1: Arrival at Tawang

  • Morning:

    • Arrival at Tawang via Guwahti / Tezpur (depending on travel arrangements).
    • Pick-up from the airport / bus station by Salt and Sea Adventures.
    • Drive to Tawang (if arriving from Tezpur, the drive takes around 6-7 hours through beautiful landscapes).
    • En route, enjoy scenic views and a break for lunch.
  • Afternoon:

    • Check-in at the hotel/resort in Tawang.
    • Relax and refresh.
  • Evening:

    • Visit the Tawang War Memorial.
    • Explore the local markets for souvenirs.
    • Dinner at the hotel/resort.

Day 2: Local Sightseeing

  • Morning:

    • Breakfast at the hotel.
    • Visit Tawang Monastery – one of the largest monasteries in India, and explore the serene surroundings.
    • Explore the Craft Centre to see local art and handicrafts.
  • Afternoon:

    • Visit Urguelling Monastery (birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama).
    • Lunch at a local restaurant or packed lunch from the hotel.
  • Evening:

    • Visit P.T. Tso Lake for scenic views and photography.
    • Return to the hotel for dinner.

Day 3: Madhuri Lake and Bomdila

  • Morning:

    • Breakfast at the hotel.
    • Head towards Madhuri Lake (also known as Shonga-tser Lake), surrounded by beautiful mountains and forests.
    • Enjoy some time for boating and photography at the lake.
  • Afternoon:

    • Continue your journey towards Bomdila, a town located around 4-5 hours from Tawang.
    • Check-in at the hotel in Bomdila.
    • Lunch en route or upon arrival.
  • Evening:

    • Visit the Bomdila Monastery and the Viewpoint for panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges.
    • Dinner and overnight stay in Bomdila.

Day 4: Return Journey

  • Morning:

    • Breakfast at the hotel in Bomdila.
    • Begin the drive back towards Tezpur / Guwahati (based on your return flight/train departure).
    • Scenic stops along the way.
  • Afternoon:

    • En route lunch.
    • Arrive at your departure point (Tezpur or Guwahati).
  • Evening:

    • Drop-off at the airport or train station for your onward journey.

    • Temperatures range from 5°C to 20°C, making it pleasant and comfortable.

    • Not the best time due to heavy rainfall.
    • Roads may be affected by landslides, making travel challenging.
    • If you enjoy the monsoon beauty and don’t mind the rain, it can still be visited, but with caution.

    • Great for sightseeing, trekking, and photography.
    • A very popular time to visit Tawang, with fewer crowds compared to summer.

    • Temperatures can drop to below freezing, ranging from -5°C to 10°C.
    • Ideal for those who enjoy a winter wonderland experience but requires proper preparation for the cold.

How to Reach Tawang:

    • The nearest airport is Tezpur Airport (Assam), around 320 km away from Tawang.
    • Another option is Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (Guwahati, Assam), about 450 km away.
    • From both airports, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Tawang.
  2. By Train:

    • The nearest railway station is Tezpur Railway Station (Assam), around 300 km away.
    • Another major station is Guwahati Railway Station.
    • From both stations, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to Tawang.
  3. By Road:

    • Tawang is well connected by road from places like Guwahati, Bomdila, and Tezpur.
    • The journey involves scenic mountain roads, and the best option is by private taxi or bus.
    • Guwahati to Tawang is around 14-16 hours by road, covering approximately 500 km.
