Day 1: Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel & St. Peter’s Basilica

  • Morning:
    • Start with the Vatican Museums, exploring its vast collection of art, sculptures, and historical artifacts. Make sure to visit the Raphael Rooms and Gallery of Maps.
    • End your museum tour by visiting the Sistine Chapel to admire Michelangelo’s famous ceiling and "The Last Judgment".
  • Afternoon:
    • Head to St. Peter’s Basilica. Spend time admiring the grand interior and Michelangelo’s Pietà. If you’re up for it, climb to the dome for panoramic views of Rome and Vatican City.
  • Evening:
    • Explore St. Peter’s Square. Enjoy the monumental space and the iconic obelisk, and take in the evening ambiance.

Day 2: Vatican Gardens, Papal Audience & Rome’s Historic Sites

  • Morning:
    • Visit the Vatican Gardens (typically available with a guided tour). Explore the peaceful gardens, fountains, and historical landmarks.
    • If it's a Wednesday or Sunday, consider attending the Papal Audience or the Papal Blessing in St. Peter’s Square (timing permitting).
  • Afternoon:
    • Spend the afternoon enjoying other key attractions in Rome, such as Castel Sant'Angelo (just a short walk from the Vatican) or head to Piazza Navona and Pantheon for a mix of art, architecture, and Roman history.
  • Evening:
    • Enjoy a leisurely dinner in the Trastevere neighborhood or explore Rome’s charming streets around Campo de' Fiori.

    • By Air: Vatican City is located within Rome, and the nearest airport is Leonardo da Vinci International Airport (Fiumicino), about 30 minutes by car. Alternatively, Ciampino Airport is smaller and closer but serves mainly budget airlines.
    • By Train: Vatican City is well-connected to Rome’s train network. Roma San Pietro station is located just a short walk from St. Peter’s Square. You can easily take a train from Rome Termini to San Pietro.
    • By Road: Being located within the city of Rome, Vatican City is easily accessible by public transport, including buses and taxis. Walking is also a popular and pleasant way to explore.
